New Hire Spotlight: Dr. Victoria Claypoole

Dynepic is T H R I L L E D to welcome Dr. Victoria Claypoole to the Dynepic Team!!

Victoria is our Manager of New Horizons, a role that will leverage her expertise in the Defense industry and academia including research, agile product management, and new business. There’s no one better for this role and we know Victoria will be integral to how we continue to #levelup the Dynepic world!

“I love that Dynepic is solving many problems with one focused solution. It’s exciting to see so many big and small companies come together, play nicely, and work to provide value to our Warfighers,” Victoria shared. “I also love the autonomy and flexibility I have in my role. From the start, it’s always been ‘do what you love doing and what you do well and make this position yours’.”

Before coming to Dynepic, Victoria was an instructor at the University of Central Florida, where she was honored as one of the university’s ‘30 Under 30.’ During the same year, she was also awarded the University of Florida's '40 Under 40.' Victoria then completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before working as a Research Associate for Design Interactive, Inc.

A few more things about Victoria:
Tell me about the coolest thing you’re working on right now.
I’m currently working on multiple new business actions to get MOTAR into every branch of the military. They really see the value of the MOTAR ecosystem, and how it can help all our warfighters, not just Airmen, so I’m excited to start these new connections.

Why are you interested in AR/VR technology?
I love the idea of how empowering it can be in every aspect of our lives…BUT…I’ve also seen how it can quickly turn into a dystopian nightmare, so I initially wanted to work with this tech to be the “Human Factors” voice of reason. Just because we can develop something, doesn’t mean we should. We have to be intentional with the design of XR apps and their implementation, and that’s exactly what Dynepic is doing.

What energizes you?
COFFEE! I mean, actually…I probably drink 5-6 cups a day. In all seriousness, I try to take pleasure/happiness in the smallest wins. Every little bit of success is going to lead to something big, so take the little wins and let them energize you to keep going!

What's the best advice you’ve ever received?
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. That and…Be confident and have courage in your convictions (thanks T-Swift).

Who would play you in a movie, and what kind of movie would it be?
Someone like Scar Jo in Black Widow or Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde – just some kickass woman breaking barriers and taking names.

Thank you, Victoria!

Q: Describe your role with Dynepic in one sentence.
A: My role as QA Lead is to establish quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure that MOTAR meets and exceeds user’s expectation by being bug free and providing the expected functionality.

Q: What excites you most about working with Dynepic?
A: I have never worked with a small company before. It feels much more nimble/flexible to make changes and move new code/functionality forward. The time to market is amazingly fast and it’s exciting to see the items you work on quickly implemented into production.

Q: Tell me about the coolest thing you’re working on right now.
A: Jira Zephyr Scale – There were no test cases setup before I started and now: we’ve built a regression suite. There is still a lot to be done but seeing from where we started to where we are now is very cool. We are working on expanding this suite and once we onboard an automation resource and get automation started; this will significantly improve our ability and speed to maintain and improve the quality of the MOTAR.

Q: Why are you interested in AR/VR technology?
A: AR/VR is the future. Just about every industry - from automotive, healthcare, aircraft to real estate - is using or moving towards AR/VR technology.

Q: What energizes you?
A: Catching issues that people did not think of.

Q: What is one thing you’re particularly passionate about or proud of?

A: My sons, I’m so proud of my sons. My oldest just graduated from high school and is joining the military (Army) and my youngest just completed 7th grade with his 3rd year in a row of being on the honor roll the whole year and finishing with all As.

Q: What's the best advice you’ve ever received?
A: Trust God; everything will work out in God’s time.

Q: Who would play you in a movie, and what kind of movie would it be?
A: Tasha Smith would play me, and it would be a Comedy/Drama!

Q: Pets? Hobbies? Tell us something we don’t know about you!
A:

  • Pet: Goldie, a 1-year-old Goldendoodle
  • Hobbies: Reading and traveling
  • Something you don’t know about me: I love to travel and I love a good road trip. My youngest son and I traveled from Florida to California on a 24-day road trip visiting 11 cities (Gulf Shores, AL; New Orleans, LA; Galveston, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Roswell, NM; Tusayan, AR; Las Vegas, NV; Palm Springs, CA; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Arcata, CA).

Describe your role with Dynepic in one sentence.
I document, test, and build everything I can for Dynepic. Over the past six years I’ve had the chance to do almost everything. Now with the shift into the USAF space, I’m responsible for on-boarding users, verifying acceptance criteria against work the platform devs have completed, and documenting the platform as we build it!

What excites you most about working with Dynepic?
Seeing endless opportunities and innovation happen right in front of me. I’ve seen the development of new products and watched them all grow one step at a time. Watching the progress and growth of Dynepic has excited me everyday for six years.

Tell me about the coolest thing you’re working on right now.
Outside of work I am developing my first “Steam” (Windows) game using the unity engine. It's called Endless Orbit - and is set in space! I know this lines up with what we are working on now but I've held onto this idea since I was 15 and am finally acting on it!

Why are you interested in AR/VR technology?
I’m particularly interested in mobile AR. I was first introduced to Augmented Reality with the release of Apple's ARKit. My colleagues have also sparked my interest in VR technology this year after seeing a few projects they worked on. As a developer I realize there is endless opportunity in the AR/VR space if you have the talent!

What energizes you?
My mom energizes me honestly, she has really shown me that people can handle a lot more problems than they realize at the time. She also really shows me anything is possible, and to never give up.

What is one thing you’re particularly passionate about or proud of?
I’m  passionate about IOS development and proud of the portfolio I've built so far. I started this work in 2015 and have published apps ever since then as I've improved my skills and it's been a ton of fun seeing where it has led me so far.

What's the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Everything happens for a reason.” I try and remember this advice as it's a good way to keep myself grounded.

Who would play you in a movie, and what kind of movie would it be?
Michael Cera - and it would be a comedy.

Pets? Hobbies? Tell me something we don’t know about you!

  • Pets: I have one dog named Ernie. He is a pitbull mix and I love him!
  • Hobbies: I am trying to learn more about cars and understand how they work a bit more. I like taking pictures of cars and currently post that online!

Anything else you’d like to share?
I didn’t take the normal college route like most people do. Krissa gave me a chance at an early age and has pushed me to grow in many aspects of life. I feel like I wouldn’t be half of the person I am today without Krissa. I got hired at Dynepic at a really weird time in my life where I couldn’t focus. She helped me reset and gain a passion for this type of work.
